Big Sean dropped a sort of mini EP last week, releasing four new songs for free. It was the first music the rapper has released since earlier this year, and he assured us that there’s plenty more on the way — including his album.
“I played my whole album for Jay and for ‘Ye,” Sean told MTV News, adding that the two rap titans had some kind words for him and his music.
Though at first he said, “I can’t tell you the feedback,” he added that, “It’s all good. It’s all positive.”
Jay Z and Kanye West aren’t just listening to the Detroit MC’s music as fans, though. Now, they’re both directly involved in Sean’s career.
Of course, he’s been signed to Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Music since 2007, but as of last week, Seanjoined Hov’s Roc Nation for management.
“People are confused, like, ‘You left G.O.O.D. Music?’ That would be the dumbest thing,” he said. “Kanye, first of all, that’s my brother for life; my mentor. It’s G.O.O.D. Music forever, man.”
As for the Roc partnership, the 26-year-old says it’s bigger than just management.
“Roc Nation just came in on the management side, but I really feel like it’s more than management,” he said. “It feels like an umbrella. It feels like a real team.”
“I get to kick it with the geniuses over there and go through my stuff and learn. I get to sit with Jay Brown. I get to sit with Ty Ty. I get to sit with Jay Z and go through my music with Jay — see what he thinks about it, go back and forth. So, that’s priceless.”
So, when will the rest of the world get to hear the album like Jay and Kanye did? Soon — but not quite yet.
“The album is on the way,” he stressed. “We not putting out any dates yet. Just know that it’s well on the way.”
